The local perfume industry has grown rapidly in the last five years. While local perfumes used to be more synonymous with synthetic scents or even refills, now the aromas are much more authentic, diverse and unique.
European perfumes, especially from Italy and France, dominated the country before the 2010s. It was only after 2017 that local perfumes began to appear.
This business has even grown rapidly during the Covid-19 pandemic, and is expected to continue to grow strongly in the next few years.
The increasing middle class, the development of e-commerce, and the abundance of essential oils in Indonesia have made the local perfume business even more fragrant. Data from the Ministry of Industry states that of the 99 types of essential oil plants in the world, 40 types of essential oil plants are available in Indonesia.
Statista data shows that the market value of the beauty & personal care industry in Indonesia is expected to grow by an average of 4.40% per year in 2023-3038, including perfume. The local perfume industry is expected to grow from US$ 373.09 million or around Rp 5.54 trillion in 2018 to US$ 491.36 million or Rp 7.68 trillion in 2028.
